The Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), is to train no fewer than 100 Primary and Junior Secondary Schools teachers Information Communication Technology (ICT).

Prof Yahya Yero, SUBEB Executive Chairman in the state disclosed this while flagging-off a five-day Information Communication Technology (ICT) inclined workshop for the selected teachers on Tuesday in Bauchi.

He said teachers needed specific professional development opportunities in order to increase their ability to use ICT for formative learning assessments, accessing online resources, individualized instructions and fostering students’ interaction, according to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN.

“Such training in ICT will positively impact teachers’ general attitudes towards ICT in the classroom.

“It will also provide specific guidance on ICT teaching within each discipline,” he said.

Yero also acknowledged that the role of ICT in the education sector cannot be overemphasized.

“It is a well-known fact that ICT can have enormous impact on students’ learning when teachers are digitally literate and understand how to integrate it into the curriculum.

“If trained to use ICT, these approaches can lead to higher order thinking skills, provide creative and individualized opinions for students to express their understanding and leave them better prepared to deal with ongoing technology changes in our society,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the theme of the workshop is: “To Enhance Teachers’ Experience Through the use of ICT Learning Tools”.

The executive chairman explained that the introduced tools which would be used in the training would be incorporated as a medium of teaching and learning.

He added that the training will be centered on subjects like Mathematics, General Science and English language.

While explaining the benefits of the training, Yero said “One of the importance of this training is that it will acquaint the students and teachers from rural communities with modern computer technology”.

“I hope that participants will utilize the knowledge acquired and impact positively on the teaching and learning the aforementioned subjects in both the primary and junior secondary schools in Bauchi.

“With these remarks, I hereby declare the 5-day workshop open and wish you successful training session”. he said.

Also speaking, Mr Isa Garba, the Teachers Professional Development Officer, SUBEB, said the participants were drawn from the 20 local government areas of the state.

He further explained that the teachers would effectively be able to teach in classrooms with the use of computers.
