Some residents in New Nyanya and Mararaba in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, have appealed to Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) improve power supply to the area.

In separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday, they described the current state of electricity supply in Mararaba and New Nyanya and its environs as “terribly epileptic”.

Some of the respondents told NAN that with the development their digital television subscription may just be a waste as the FIFA World Cup continues.

Mr John Obi, a resident, said that since the commencement of the ongoing FIFA World Cup competition, power supply has been epileptic and irregular, thus frustrating the people.

Obi said he detested watching football matches in viewing centres due to the insecurity that pervade such places.

” But the recent epileptic power supply in the area has given us no choice because of the passion we have for football.

”Buying fuel regularly for the generating set is not that easy, especially now that I have spent much to buy a new digital decoder and TV and recharge in order not to miss any of the football matches at the World Cup.

”I appeal to AEDC to allow us enjoy the matches by ensuring constant power supply, especially now that the match are ongoing,” he said.

Another football fan, Mr Femi Ade, said that the attitude of AEDC with regards to the epileptic power supply was becoming worrisome and frustrating.

Ade added that the situation had forced most football fans to start going out at odd times even when they intend to watch the match at the comfort of their homes.

He said, “even when AEDC decides to bring the light, it would not stay for long; the worst part is that they always take the light when match is about to commence.

“We spent money in upgrading our Star Times, DStv and GOtv to view all the matches, but it seems as if our effort will be in vain.

Similarly, Mr Anthony Eze, who runs a viewing centre, said due to the inconsistency in power supply, he had to rely on buying fuel to power his generating set to keep his business running.

According to him, the inadequate and inconsistence in supply of power has cost him losses at the centre, adding that he is not able to keep up with the demands of the customers.

”Some fans, who can afford to fuel their generating set watch matches at home, many others patronise us; they also love to watch football matches with other fans.

“As an operator of a centre, when you decide not to fuel your generator and wait for AEDC, you are bound to lose your customers,’’ he said.

He appealed to the management of the AEDC to improve on their services to make football fans watch and support the national team.
