A national committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) deployed to  Oyo State says the party’s local government congress  held across the state on Sunday was  peaceful and successful.

The committee led by Alhaji Musa Halilu-Ahmed gave the verdict  at a briefing held at the state’s  party secretariat at  Oke-Ado, Ibadan,  on Tuesday.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that the congress  earlier scheduled for Saturday was shifted to Sunday as a result of the local government election held in the state.

There were parallel congresses  in the state with a faction using the local government secretariats and the other holding its own in  party secretariats across the 33 local government areas of  the state.

But Halilu-Ahmed  described  the congress as  largely peaceful across the three senatorial districts  of the state, adding that his committee had  received the results of the exercise.

“We have collected the results and they are duly signed by INEC, DSS, police and other relevant stakeholders,” he said.

Halilu-Ahmed commended members of the party in the state for their peaceful conduct during and after the congress.

The committee chairman also thanked security agencies in the state for providing an enabling environment for a successful congress

“ We thank the governor and the party executives in the state for their support. We also commend the media for their unbiased coverage of the congress,’’ he said.

Halilu-Ahmed, who also announced the arrival of the party’s appeal committee, urged  aggrieved members to submit their petitions to it.

Attempts  made by journalists  to ask questions were, however,  rebuffed by the committee members after the briefing.
