A Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday sentenced a 24-year-old man, Tobi Ayegbusi, to six months imprisonment, for trafficking 160 grammes of Cannabis Sativa otherwise known as hemp.
Ayegbusi, who is unemployed, was charged on one-count of drug trafficking by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
He pleaded guilty to the charge.
After his plea, the Prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, reviewed the facts of the case and tendered some evidence.
Some of the documents tendered in evidence included: a written statement of the accused, a request for scientific aid form, a drug analysis form and the bulk of exhibit.
Aernan then urged the court to convict the accused, based on evidence adduced.
Delivering judgment, Justice Hadiza Rabiu-Shagari, found the accused guilty as charged, and accordingly convicted him.
She sentenced the convict to a term of six months imprisonment, beginning from the date of his arrest.
In the charge, the prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan told the court that the convict committed the offence on Sept. 9, 2017 at Ikeja.
He said that about 160 g of Cannabis Sativa or Hemp was recovered from the convict, which he sold as a trade.
According to him, the convict was consequently arrested and charged.
The offences contravene the provisions of Sections 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
