File: Immigration officers at a parade

The comptroller of Immigration Service Ogun State Command Mr.AO Bayeroju has lamented the poor attitude of Nigerians towards insecurity in the country.

Bayeroju who was represented by Mr Kuti Felix made this known at the National Orientation Agency (NOA) programme on Interactive session on Security Awareness Campaign at the press centre Iweroyin,Abeokuta.

His word”the attitude of Nigerian people at supporting and collaborating with agencies of government remain abysmally poor.”

“The attitude of fello Nigerians to our operations can be described as uncooperative,antagonistic,unfriendly and hostile. He lamented

Adding that the efforts of NIS officers at preventing influx of illegal immigrants into the country are violently challenged by Nigerian residents of border communities.

“Community leaders,landlords and employers of illegal immigrants also obstruct our officers in the course of evacuating illegal immigrants,and repatriating them to their countries of origin.

“Their entry into the country must have been aided by the expansive nature of our border lines,coupled with connivance of residents of the border communities.

When people have crucial information that can assist in combating the menace of insecurity,their attitude is that of apathy,the security agencies can not know it all.He added

“Also our attitude to issues of national interest is largely unbecoming,we appear to have lost our conscience as individual citizens,while the spirit of patriotism has since departed us,” he said.

He urged the people to be conscious of developments around them.

More so, “we must improve on our local intelligence gathering capacity,to keep our neighbourhood safe and secured.

He added”persons suspected to possess capacity to engage in activities inimical to security must be promptly reported to the security agencies.

Bayeroju also indulged the people to imbibe the right attitudes that we can achieve the Nigeria of our dream.

In his welcome address,the Director of National Orientation Agency,Mr Sola Babalola said”the excess of this program is to arouse the security consciousness and ingenuity of stakeholders to appreciate and better understand the need for sustainable collaborative effort betweenthe security agenciesand the people at large.

Adding that “in some parts of the country the incidence of terrorism and insurgency has attained mind burgling and disturbing proportion leaving in its wake ,massive waste and destruction of human lives,properties and infrastructure.

Kidnapping,human trafficking child labour,cultism,examination malpractice,drug related offences and so on are well known and should not be allowed to continue. He added

Mr Babalola then implore everybody to join hands with the Federal,State and Local Governments in their avowed commitment towards evolution of a more secured,peaceful,harmonious and progressive society.

The program was also attended by the by the Commissioner of police of Ogun State CP Ahmed Iliyasu represented by the Police Public Relation Officer Abimbola Oyeyemi who promise to curb and nap on any criminal in every cribs and corner of the state.
“We are ensuring that crimes is totally reduce in the state.

I promise that any where criminals are we will nap on them and five them the right treatment they deserve according to the law of the country.
