you The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), on Monday arraigned one Micheal Nwafor, in FCT High Court Maitama, for allegedly battering his wife, Ginika.
Nwafor, resident of Gwarinpa village, Abuja is standing trial on a count charge bordering on violence against his wife, offence he denied committing.
Mrs Rebecca Elechi, the Prosecuting Counsel, told the court that Nwafor allegedly committed the offence on Aug. 18, 2016.
She said the defendant hit Ginika on her face and battered her.
The prosecuting counsel averred that Nwafor’s alleged action ran contrary to Section 19 (1) of Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, 2015.
NAN reports that the offence carries three years imprisonment or a fine of N200, 000 or both.
Mr Cyril Opara, the defendant’s counsel made an oral bail application for his client, adding that he would not jump bail.
Elechi who did not object to the bail application, told the court that the applicant was already enjoying an administrative bail.
Justice Peter Affen, held that the bail application was in line with the procedure of the court.
The judge went ahead to admit Nwafor to bail on the existing administrative bail granted him by NAPTIP and adjourned the matter until Nov. 14 for trial.
