Kenyan Government on Thursday denied blocking two opposition leaders from travelling to Uganda.

Director of Immigration Services, Gordon Kihalangwa, said that the former Vice President, Kalonzo Musyoka and former Foreign Minister, Moses Wetangula were not denied exit.

According to the News Agency of Nigetia, NAN, Kihalangwa said that the clearing officer at the airport delayed in clearing the two, causing their anxiety.

“The immigration officer delayed a bit in clearing them as he checked the system. It could have been out of many reasons. But this caused anxiety in the two politicians,” he said.

His remarks came after opposition leader; Raila Odinga accused the State House of trying to block his two opposition members from travelling to Uganda.

Odinga said the two leaders were briefly delayed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport while on their way to Kampala, where Musyoka was to preside over a graduation ceremony.

“The authorities disclosed that henceforth, Kalonzo and I will need clearance from State House before leaving the country,” Odinga said.

The National Super Alliance (NASA) leader said these attempts pointed to rapid deterioration of the political situation and the emergence of an all-out effort to create an atmosphere of fear.

“Attempts to prohibit opposition leaders from leaving the country and control their movement through State House clearances are illegitimate manoeuvres by an increasingly paranoid regime,” Odinga said.

Kenyans are gearing up to the Oct. 26 presidential rerun after the Supreme Court nullified the Aug. 8 elections.
