Driver charged with criminal breach of trust

The police on Tuesday arraigned a 34-year-old driver, Hamisu Ibrahim in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, charged with criminal breach of trust and cheating.

According to the News Agency Nigeria, NAN, Ibrahim, who resides at Jahi, Abuja, is facing a two-count charge.

The prosecutor, Florence Avhioboh, told the court that Umar Musa of 3rd Avenue, Gwarimpa Estate, Abuja, reported the matter at Gwarimpa Police Station on Sept. 8.

She said that sometime in May, Ibrahim entrusted the sum of N400,000 with the defendant
to do business and make profit to be shared between them.

Avhioboh said the defendant, however, converted the money to his personal use and ran to an unknown destination.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 312 and 322 and of the Penal Code.

However, the defendant denied committing the offences, and the judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, granted him bail in the sum of N200, 000 and a surety in like sum.

He said the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must present utility bill carrying his name as he adjourned the case until Oct. 4 for further hearing.
