The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) begins a nationwide strike,  today Monday 4th September 2017.

The Association said the decision to embark on the strike was reached at  its National Executive Council Meeting which ended early this morning.

NARD said the strike will not be called off until all its demands are met by the Federal Government.

The resident doctors said they are embarking on the strike due to government’s failure to pay salary shortfall of 2016 and January to May 2017 and failure to rectify the salary shortfall from August 2017 among other reasons.

Federal Government had last week said the resident doctors had agreed to call off the strike after a meeting between their officials and the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole and his Labour and Employment counterpart, Senator Chris Ngige.

But NARD had denied the claim of as false in reaction to the FG’s claim. .

“Rising from our NEC meeting, which started by 7pm yesterday and ended 3am today, NARD has resolved to reject the promissory offer from Government, and proceed on total and indefinite strike action until all items in her demand list for strike action are resolved by Government,” NARD President, Dr. Onyebueze John said in a text message announcing the commencement of the strike on Monday morning.
