The coach of the national wrestling team, Purity Akuh, on Wednesday expressed his optimism on Nigeria’s chances of doing well at the upcoming World Wrestling Championships in Paris.

“I am very hopeful that something good will come out from participating at the World Wrestling Championships in Paris.’’

Akuh, who was speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on telephone from the Yenagoa camp of the team, said that the wrestlers were in good form and in high spirits.

The Championships will hold from Aug. 21 to Aug. 26 in the French capital.

“The wrestlers are all in good shape and have been adhering to instructions. I have seen tremendous improvement in them since the camp commenced.

“I see the zeal and willingness in them to go and conquer in Paris. Their morale is high and they are all confident and that’s very key to success, ” said Akuh

Akuh is the coach in charge of the camping.

A total of 12 wrestlers are in camp but only six are billed to compete at the championships, while the other six are their training partners.

The Paris-bound wrestlers are Daniel Amas 65kg, Blessing Oborududu 63kg, Aminat Adeniyi 58kg, Odunayo Adekuoroye 55kg, Mercy Genesis 48kg and John Emmanuel 70kg.
