Obaseki: Final victory

The election of Godwin Obaseki as the governor of Edo State was upheld unanimously by seven panel of judges of the Supreme Court on Monday.

The apex court dismissed appeal filed by Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2016 governorship election in the state.

The declaration of the Supreme Court ended the challenge of election of Obaseki as governor by Pastor Ize Iyamu who contested against him on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party.

Ize-Iyamu had earlier lost the bid to overturn the election of the All Progressives Congress candidate at the Tribunal and Court of Appeal before his final appeal to the Supreme Court.

The Chief Justice of Nigeria Walter Onnoghen led seven other judges that gave the judgment.

The Judges however said they will give reasons for turning down Ize-Iyamu’s bid to sack Obaseki from office on 24 July.
