Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has promised to offset the bills of an Oredo local government council worker, Mr. Sunday Oboite, who died over a year ago and has been left in a hospital mortuary over unpaid bills to to enable him to be buried.
The Edo State government also promised to empower the family of the deceased with funds to start a business.
With this, respite is finally coming the way of the corpse of the deceased who collapsed and died over 454 days ago while waiting to be verified during a verification exercise at Oredo local government council.
His corpse had been kept in the mortuary by the family all the while over their inability to access the much needed financial assistance to bury him.
A statement from the office of the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. John Mayaki, said the plight of the late pensioner’s family, was made known to the Governor just recently.
“The Governor sympathises with the family of the late Oboite, especially his son, Osasu Oboite, on whom the onus of responsibility for the burial fell.
“He [Obaseki], has therefore decided to assist the family with the burial, clear the mortuary bills and also provide resources for his only son to start a business,” the statement announced.
