Court jails man, woman, 6 months for adultery

A Kano Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday sentenced one Sunday Adedeji and 18-year-old Juliet Danladi to three months imprisonment each for adultery.

Adedeji, 32, and the woman, of Dakata Quarters, Kano, faced two counts of adultery in the court.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Junaidu Aminu, told the court that one Charles Danladi, the elder brother of the woman,   of the same address, reported the case at Dakata Police Division, Kano, on June 4.

He said that about five months ago the convicts had illicit sexual intercourse without being formally married.

Aminu said that the offences contravened sections 387 and 388 of the Penal Code.

The convicts pleaded guilty to the charges.

Chief Magistrate Kabiru Abubakar sentenced the convicts to three months imprisonment with an option to pay N10,000 fine each.
