Court remands warehouse manager for theft

An Ilesa Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Thursday remanded a warehouse manager, Kazeem Zakariyah, in prison over alleged N5.7 million fraud.

Magistrate Joshua Owolawi ordered the remand of the defendant in Ilesa Prisons until April 28, for ruling on his bail application.
Zakariyah, 36, of no fixed address, had pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of obtaining money under false pretences and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Jimoh Mufutau, had told the court that the accused and others at large, committed the offences sometime in May, 2015 in Ilesa, Osun.
Mufutau said that the accused took the advantage of being a manager of the warehouse of one Busayo Adejumo to obtained goods worth N5.7 million on false pretext.
According to him, the offences contravened Sections 419 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol 11, Law of Osun, 2002.
The accused counsel, Mr Olasumbo Afolabi, pleaded for his bail in most liberal terms and promised that his client would not jump bail.
