Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has refused assent to four bills passed by the National Assembly.

In a letter sent to the National Assembly, the Acting President said he is withholding assent to the Dangerous Drugs Amendment Bill 2016, National Lottery Commission Bill 2016, Agricultural Credit Guarantee Scheme Fund 2016, and Currency Conversion Freezing Order Amendment Bill 2016.

The Acting President had last week assented to seven bills passed by the legislature.

However, Osinbajo said in a letter read by Senate President Bukola Saraki that he withheld assent to the four bills due to “concerns regarding words and phrases, and the spirit behind the amendment”, and unspecified pending legal issue.

However, Saraki said the Senate would seek legal advice on the matter as the complaints of the presidency had to do with separation of power.
