Nasir el-Rufai: Gov. Kaduna State

The Kaduna State Traffic and Environmental Law Enforcement Agency (KASTELEA) has given March 1, as deadline for restriction of heavy trucks from plying city roads.

Col. Abdulkadir Ahmed, Managing Director of the agency, made this known in a statement on Thursday in Kaduna.

However, he said that such vehicles would only be allowed to move between 6 a.m and 8 p.m.

He also said that due to the repairs of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, the Kaduna International Airport would be put to use as an alternate.

He, therefore, advised motorists plying the city roads to adhere strictly to traffic rules.

He added that operators of commercial vehicles and tricycles are to register with the agency where they would be issued identification cards for their daily use.

Ahmed said offenders would go through psychiatric test once caught committing any traffic offence, adding that there will be a vehicle emission and road worthiness test on vehicles and tricycles.

According to him, offenders of traffic laws and regulations would attract sanctions which would include fines and prison terms.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the agency had earlier signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a California based company, Eco Luminaire, on road safety.

Ahmed stressed in the statement that the agency had been working round the clock to ensure that the roads were safe for motorists.

He said the agency was also working with relevant stakeholders to ensure a conducive environment and free traffic flow in the state.
