Adolf Hitler: Pomsel was secretary to Goebbels, Hitler’s propaganda chief

A one-time Secretary of Nazi propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels is dead, a documentary filmmaker said on Monday.

Brunhilde Pomsel, one of the last witnesses of the inner workings of Adolf Hitler’s regime, died at the age of 106 on Saturday, according to Christian Kroenes, who co-directed the 2016 documentary on Pomsel titled, “A German Life.’’

In the film, Pomsel recalled the years after Hitler seized power in 1933 and her job in the propaganda ministry, describing it as her “fate.’’

Pomsel began working in the private of office of Goebbels, who managed the Nazis’ mass communications, in 1942.

Goebbels was known for maintaining an iron grip on the media and being one of the regime’s fiercest anti-Semites, but Pomsel insisted she only found out about the extent of the horrors perpetuated by her former boss and the Nazis after the end of the Second World War.

Pomsel insisted she knew nothing about the Holocaust and the murder of about 6 million Jews by the Nazi regime.

“Everyone thinks we all knew everything, we knew nothing,’’ Pomsel said in the film. (dpa/NAN)
