LG distributes materials to 90 schools in Bayelsa

The Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa has distributed educational materials worth over N2 million to 90 primary schools in the area.

Mr Tolu Amatu, Chairman, Caretaker Committee, who presented the materials to the schools on Friday in Ekeremor, said materials included cartons of notebooks, cartons of school registers, pencils, rulers, diaries, cartons of chalks, among others.

Amatu, represented by Mr Mark Christmas, Education Supervisory Counsellor in the area, said the denotation was part of the state government’s efforts to boost education at the grassroots.

He said the materials were mainly for primary schools in order to improve quality teaching.

The chairman described primary education as foundation of formal education and essential component of educational system of every nation.

“We cannot do without the primary school level; we donated these materials because some of our people are suffering in illiteracy.

“We must continue to rebuild our primary schools, take it as priority in the efforts to strengthen education; all the materials donated worth over N2 million,’’ he said.

.Mr James Ibomoye, Acting Education Secretary, Ekeremor Local Government Area, who received the materials, pledged that the materials would be distributed fairly.

Mr Frank Ogbere, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Ekeremor chapter, commended the state government and expressed hope that the materials would boost teachers’ performance as well.
