U.S. military strikes in central Yemen’s Baydah governate killed five al-Qaida operatives in the Arabian Peninsula , U.S. Central Command (Centcom) officials said on Wednesday.
A statement issued by the U.S. Department of Defense quoted Maj. Josh Jacques, a Centcom spokesman, as saying that a Jan. 21 strike killed three operatives, and strikes conducted Jan. 20 and Jan. 22 killed one operative each.
“Strikes against al-Qaida operatives in Yemen put consistent pressure on the terrorist network and prevent them from plotting and executing attacks against the U.S. and our allies,” Jacques said.
According to him, the terrorist group remained a significant threat to the region, the U.S. and beyond.
