The Kogi State Government on Monday intensified efforts to sanitise the median strip of dual carriage highways in Lokoja and its environs.

The state Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Rosemary Osikoya, disclosed this at the official flag-off of “Operation Clean-Up Kogi ” in Lokoja, the state capital.

The commissioner told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the exercise which began during the November environmental sanitation would last till the end of January, 2017.

“We are calling on motorists, especially, those on transit to slow down within Lokoja, pay adequate attention to road signs and cooperate with us to ensure safety of our sanitation workers.

“We are also warning travellers to desist from littering or throwing things out of moving vehicles within our borders, as the provisions of the law will be enforced on offenders.

“It is a general cleaning of the road median in our highways which are hitherto looking filthy and dirty. Our focus today is Nataco and Ganaja stretch,” Osikoya said.

The commissioner disclosed that a stakeholders’ interactive session on sanitation and waste management would hold on Tuesday at the Federal University, Lokoja.

She said that the stakeholders expected to attend would  include: all state’s environmental officers in partnership with Environmental Health Officers Registration Council of Nigeria (EHORECON), Federal Ministry of Environment and key academic institutions. (NAN)
