An unidentified middle-aged man was reportedly killed by unknown gunmen suspected to be armed robbers, who invaded a sports viewing centre in Benin City, capital of Edo State.

The incident occurred on Tuesday at about 9.15 pm at Otoghile Street, Off Orosanye Street, in Okhoro area of the city.

The victim simply identified as Oz, was said to be a professional bus driver and the son of a landlord in the area, popularly known as Mexico.

It was gathered that one of the gun-wielding men opened fire on the man while others dispossessed the centre operator and his customers of money, mobile phones and other valuables.

A resident in the area who did not want his name in print, said the assailants, numbering about six, struck just few minutes after the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to cut power supply to the area.

It was further gathered that operatives of Okhoro Police Division later arrived the scene and took the victim’s corpse away after interrogating the landlord and some victims of the operation.

A source at Okhoro Police Station who crave anonymity, disclosed that two suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack.

The State Police Command’s Spokesman, Moses Nkombe, could not be reached for confirmation, as calls made to his mobile phone did not go through.
