Following the lecture allegedly given by the Emir of Kano and former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Alhaji Sanusi, I am reluctantly compelled to send this rejoinder on what Emir Sanusi, former Central Bank of Nigeria, boss was alleged to have written as a solution to the current recession facing Nigeria, when in fact, and indeed he was part of those who created the problem.

Alhaji Sanusi came to the Central Bank of Nigeria as a political governor, not as a professional and honest governor (though professionally qualified). Rather he came there and operated more as a politician than a professional. No sooner he got to Central Bank of Nigeria than he started issuing political, and taking on himself, on behalf of the bank non-bank, and non- financial functions. In one of his unkind, primitive and unguarded statements he attacked the Yoruba race by saying “YORUBAS ARE THE PROBLEMS OF NIGERIA”. Apart from his insulting the Yoruba race as being the problem of Nigeria, he took the advantage of his new position as governor to seize some Yoruba banks under the pretext of banking reform and got them liquidated or taken over by other banks through merger and acquisitions

Though some of these banks played into his hand, it was an opportunity and a smoke-scream to display his anti-Yoruba agenda. Apart from the above, he embarked on dolling money to private institutions like Universities, individuals and Northern organisations all of which are non Central Bank of Nigeria functions related and completely strange to Central Bank of Nigeria functions of monetary and price stability. During his tenure he centralised all operations of the banks in his office such as the purchase of office stationery materials for distribution to all offices in the country to the embarrassment of those he met in the service who were not used to the new style of operation introduced by him.

I will illustrate with our experience here in Ekiti which led to my writing him a letter-indeed a stinker-which he never replied till today. Ekiti State has a CURRENCY OFFICE before he became the governor of Central Bank of Nigeria. He started the CENTRAL BANK OF NIGERIA BRANCH OFFICE IN ADO-EKITI. He was so mean, divisive and tribalistic that every material for the construction of the branch office had to come directly from his office. A ridiculous situation was his choice of a young Fulani/Hausa lady resident in Ado-Ekiti who had to supply sand and gravel to the site as if there are non indigenes who can supply such materials. This is true of every aspect of the construction of the branch office until the building was abandoned until his leaving the Central Bank of Nigeria as governor.

It will be of interest to know the contractor employed for that branch office who not only has abandoned the project, but remains abandoned until today. I had the opportunity both as, a junior staff and as director of research in 1984, to have served six Central Bank of Nigeria governors all of whom I can vouchsafe never engaged in such reckless and irresponsible adventure most of which bordered on criminality as he did. That was why former President Jonathan had to remove him from Central Bank of Nigeria as governor.

What keeps bothering me now is this: “Is it that he has become the Emir of Kano that he is now above criminal charges for which he was removed from office just because he is now untouchable ? It is because of the above that many people especially parliamentarians were clamoring for the removal of the autonomy of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the noise that has happily died down.

Part two of this paper will continue with Trade Bank Plc, which, under the leadership of Late Chief J O Asabia I helped established for Kwara State Government which he and the then Governor Saraki destroyed with all the scandals surrounding it.

He truly destroyed the laid down administrative processes and procedures with respect to staff recruitment, promotion and discipline which clearly demonstrated nepotism, tribalism and all the other prejudices that exist in Nigeria fueled by political recklessness of his kind. He had no regard for led down rules, because his selfish political ambition and desperate desire for the office he presently occupies; which was common knowledge. Examination was the process of being both recruited and promoted before he became Governor of CBN in 2009, but because of his premeditated agenda, he refused to implement the policy of retiring after writing exams three times by any staff without passing. Instead of doing that, he promoted those who were involved just because the majority came from his side of the country. Unfortunately, soon after that, he reintroduced the promotion exam only for junior and senior staff whom he also short-changed by creating intermediary grades to keep them from advancing to the executive (Directorate) cadre, while doing selective promotion for the benefit of his preferred stock Nigerians. Please, is this not the height of corruption. This is the commonest type of corruption being perpetrated by public office holders that has perpetually jeopardized the interest majority of ordinary citizens without connection to an Emir, Oba, Igwe, General (serving or retired), Permanent Secretary, Director, MD of or Head of government MDAs. If our leaders don’t deliberately create laws, policies and programmes that make it possible for every Nigerian seeking admission, employment and political position to compete using an age long process of testing knowledge and skill called examination, they and nation can’t be seen as being fair and just to all. He knows that his reign was characterized by impunity and sectionalism. Those who fear God are fair and just in their dealings with other humans knowing that God is the ultimate just judge of all. God bless the just and fair in Nigeria and help the unconnected helpless Nigerians. Amen.

Anyone who says Emir Lamido Sanusi is tribalistic does not know him

I do not know Emir Lamido, and I do not Chief Falegan. The fact is that, both men have held at some point in time, positions of impact in regards of the Nigerian economy. The current value of the Naira and the lack of vibrancy of the Nigerian economy is proof that something untoward happened to the Nigerian economy involving the Central Bank. Therefore, this is the most apt time for all the people that were involved in the mismanagement of the Nigerian economy, to band their efforts together and honestly inform the public about their roles in the failure of the Nigerian economy. Hopefully, the disastrous parochial practices that led to economic failures in Nigeria can be seriously addressed and possibly get rectified (i.e., maybe, through truth and reconciliation, if it ever works).

What is the meaning of For Your Attention EFCC and ICPC?

Is this man of this status saying that he doesn’t know how to forward this to the appropriate investigating and prosecuting authorities?
I put it to this Author that he is part of Nigeria problems!

There was a person recently who refused to accept the 5% commission given to him as a whistle blower, Lai Mohammed said so, this means that the guy appropriately channeled the petition and it was found to be valuable and germaine, and they acted upon it.

If not for cheap political reasons and other personal score settlements, we need not be availed this irrelevant writeup on the social network, rather, he shld direct it to the relevant agencies, and he shld stop wasting our precious data and time.

Whoever knows him should please advise him accordingly
