As part of its efforts to fight recession, the Benue State Government has declared Friday of every week as a work free day. The day is to be used by workers who engage in farming to harvest their produce. This was the decision of the State Executive Council on Wednesday.

However teachers and other workers in the education sector especially those in primary and secondary schools in the state are exempted from the exercise. They are to continue to go about their official duties in order not to jeopardize education of the young ones in the State.

This was contained in a statement issued by Special Adviser on Media and ICT, Mr Tahav Argezua on Thursday, The statement added that the work free day will commence on Friday, November, 11, 2016 and end the last Friday of January, 2017.

The News recall that the state government had in June this year announced every Friday work free day to allow workers in the state engage in farming activities. The objective was to enable as many workers as possible to produce food to feed their families in the current economic downturn which has made the regular payment of salaries a major challenge.
