The scale of Gestapo like abduction of judges in overnight raid on their residence by operatives of State Security Services is becoming clear with confirmation that two Justices of the Supreme Court were picked up by men of the secret police in the exercise which took place late Friday and early Saturday morning.
Mr. Ahuraka Isah, media aide to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN confirmed that Justices Sylvester Ngwuta and John Okoro were arrested at their official residences early Saturday morning by the security operatives.
He however added that the reason for the arrest of the two Justices is not yet known.
The two Justices, according to him, are still being held by DSS.
Contrary to earlier reports, Isah said Justice Walter Onnoghen, the next in rank to the incumbent CJN was not arrested.
Other Justices reportedly arrested in the raid by operatives of DSS or residences of the judicial officers in Abuja and Port Harcourt include Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
He was arrested by the operatives of the DSS after breaking into his official residence at about 1am on Saturday.
Though the home of another Federal High Court judge, Justice Nnamdi Dimgba, who is a neighbour to Justice Ademola at Apo Legislative Quarters was raided, he was not arrested.
Another Federal High Court Judge was also reported to have been arrested in Gombe.
