Nigeria puts up two presidential jets for sale

an-aircraft-in-nigerias-presidential-fleetNigerian President Muhammadu Buhari takes   concrete step to fulfilling one of his major electoral promises of reducing cost of governance on Tuesday with putting up of two of the 10 air crafts in the presidential fleet for sale.

The auctioning of the air crafts was announced in an advert in national newspapers published on Tuesday.

In the advert,  interested buyers were invited to show interest for the two air crafts – a Falcon 7X (5N-FGU) and Hawker 4000 (5N-FGX).

The Falcon 7X has a 16 passenger and 3 crew members capacity, while the Hawker 4000 can seat 9 passengers and 6 crew members.

Interested buyers were asked to inspect the Falcon at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International, Airport, Abuja, and the Hawker at Cessna Zurich Citation Service Centre, Zurich, Switzerland.

The office of the national security adviser (NSA), which is handling the sale said all bids should be quoted in US dollars.

Malam Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu  had on 8 September announced that the Federal Government has constituted a committee to look into the sales of some presidential jets in fulfillment of the campaign promise of the President reaction to public criticisms of lack of action on the campaign promise.

He said: “There is a govt committee already in place, working to reduce the number of aircraft in the presidential fleet.”

“Some aircraft will be boarded, some others returned to the Air Force for operations. The Change is here.”

“There is hope for Nigeria, a hope that was previously clouded by corruption, greed and lack of focus.”
