Godwin Obaseki, APC governorship candidate at a rally

The Ojuromi of Uromi Kingdom, Edo Central, HRH Anslem Eidenojie II, has declared that candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, could not trusted to be voted as governor of the state.

He stated this while playing host to Governor Adams Oshiomhole who led the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Mr. Godwin Obaseki and his running mate, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu to seek for his blessings and support.

The monach who declared that he is in charge of the political affairs of the Uromi people and does not owe any political leader any explanation about his kingdom, dismissed the allegation by the leadership of the PDP that Uromi belongs to the party.

The reference to ‘leader’ was obviously to Chief Tony Anenih, a chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party and political leader of the community and the area.

Ize Iyamu is PDP candidate for the forthcoming Edo governorship election who is also being backed by Anenih.

“I do not trust Pastor Ize-Iyamu enough to become Governor. My People want Godwin Obaseki. I am not a politician but a business man. Politics is not about sentiment but development,” he said.

The Onojie who threatened to expose the dirty dealings of the opposition party in the state, frowned at what he described as the disrespect and desperation of Pastor Ize-Iyamu who he said cannot be the next Governor of Edo State based on their track record of under-development.

He however said he was impressed by the performance of the governor in his less than eight years in office, just as he recalled that he was in the entourage of the Comrade Governor last year to commission three roads and a town hall in Uromi which were part of the promises made by the Oshiomhole administration.

“I supported him before and he has been nice to the people of Uromi, so we have no fear in the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Mr. Godwin Obaseki and his running mate. I will pray and the ancestors of this land will support them to make sure that they fulfilled their dreams,” he said.

Earlier in his speech, the APC governorship candidate, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, assured the monarch and people of Uromi that he will build on the good work already started by Governor Adams Oshiomhole.

According to him, “Uromi is the power house of the economic life of Esan Land and we will develop the land and deal with human capital development.

“As a government, we shall be accountable to the people and continue with the developmental strides of the incumbent governor of Edo State. We are familiar with the challenges and we will.
