Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye

Offa in Kwara State went agog on Friday when Supreme Court affirmed Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye as the Oloffa Offa.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that there had been palpable anxiety in the last two weeks over the outcome of the suit.

NAN reports that the Olugbense ruling house of the town had challenged the authenticity of the appointment of the monarch at the Ilorin High court.

Oloffa won at the high court but lost the appeal at the Court of Appeal, Ilorin Division and appealed to the Supreme Court.

The Olofa, in Saudi Arabia for lesser hajj, described the judgment as an act of God, praised the judiciary for finally upholding the truth and reaffirming the choice of the Offa people.

The Oba said the six years chieftaincy tussle in Offa had come to an end and appealed to sons and daughters of the community to unite for progress of Offa.

The Olofa thanked the people and well wishers for standing firmly by him since he was installed as the Olofa when the legal tussle began.

He urged the people of Offa to go about their businesses and avoid any crisis that can undermine the peace of the town.

Oba Gbadamosi enjoined Olugbense ruling house to join hands with him to move the town to greater heights.

He said the victory was not only for him or the Anilelerin ruling house, but for the entire Offa, the state and even the nation.

Gbadamosi said Offa is a peaceful community and called for the same peace to be maintained at all times.

Similarly, an All Progressives Congress (APC), chieftain, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje commended the verdict, describing it as that of God.

Baraje enjoined Oloffa not to see the victory in court as his personal victory, but that of the entire people of Offa community.

The APC chieftain urged the monarch to also see the victory as a divine design to make him further work for the development and growth of Offa.

He pleaded with Oloffa to earnestly strive to bring all the factions in the Obaship matter together for the desired progress, growth and development of the ancient town.

Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed congratulated the Oloffa on the affirmation.

The governor through his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Alhaji Abdulwahab Oba, said the judicial victory should give the monarch the necessary impetus to consolidate his passion towards development of Offa and indeed, the state.

Ahmed advised Gbadamosi to see the judgment as that of no victor no vanquished by extending hands of fellowship to all parties in the dispute.

“I urge the aggrieved members of the royal family to regard the Oloffa’s victory as a victory for all by coming together to solidify the royal knot and develop the community”, he said.

The governor prayed God to give the Oloffa the wisdom and the necessary guidace to pilot the affairs of the town and contribute more to the growth and development of Kwara. (NAN)
