Ali Modu Sheriff

Despite stiff opposition from a large section of the party, Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff seemed to be digging in as the factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with the appointment of Dr. Cairo Ojougboh as Deputy National Chairman on Tuesday of his faction of the party on Tuesday.

Also, another set of chairmen of state chapters of PDP on Tuesday also endorsed Sheriff as the party’s “authentic” National Chairman.

It will be recalled that some state chairmen had endorsed Ahmed Makarfi, the former governor of Kaduna State who was appointed chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the party at PDP National Convention in Port Harcourt the authentic leader of the party yesterday.

The letter appointing Ojougboh who was one of the party’s officials removed at the party’s May 21  convention in Port Harcourt was signed by Sheriff and the National Secretary of his faction of the party, Prof. Wale Oladipo.

Sheriff claimed the appointment of Ojougboh followed his endorsement by the leadership of the party in South south part of the country.

The letter reads, “Please, be informed that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party in a meeting held on the 28th of June 2016, and having received nomination from the Concerned PDP stakeholders (Abuja Convention Group) and major stakeholders in the South-south has appointed you as the Acting Deputy National Chairman of the party pending the conduct of election to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of the erstwhile Deputy National Chairman. This appointment takes immediate effect”.
