The Code of Conduct Tribunal said on Thursday that the trial of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, on charges of false asset declaration before the Code of Conduct Tribunal in Abuja will resume on June 7.
The trial could not hold on Wednesday following the absence of the first prosecution witness, Michael Wetkas.
Wetkas, an EFCC operative was appearing as witness in the trial of the immediate past Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, before Justice Adeniyi Ademola of a Federal High Court in Abuja.
Consequently, the Lead prosecuting counsel, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), had written the tribunal to ask for adjournment to June 7, 8 and 9 dates for continuation of thetrial.
The Head, Press and Public Relations, Ibraheem Al-hassan, in a statement on Thursday said the tribunal had acceded to the lawyer’s request and had fixed June 7 for resumption of the trial which will continue on June 8 and 9.
“This got to show that the initial impression that the tribunal had adjourned indefinitely was false, as publicised yesterday (Wednesday) by some media organisations,” Al-hassan said.
