Ugbo: Criticism of boss lands him in trouble

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, has caused to be docked his senior special assistant on media an publicity, Curtis Ugbo, for criticising him on Facebook.

The 47 year-old Ugbo was also charged with illegal gun possession.

He was docked today at an Oredo Magistrate Court sitting in Benin, accused of committing the offence on April 12, at 2B, Ugbor Road, Benin.

He allegedly committed the offense on April 12, 2016, at 2B, Ugbor Road, GRA, Benin.

In the case titled Commissioner of Police Vs Curtis Ugbo, he was accused of publishing an article against the governor in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.

The said Internet publication with the caption: “what’s wrong with my Boss?” read thus:

” The ground breaking of Edo State own[ed] cement industry in partnership with a private company under Government Public Private Partnership and stakeholders, No State House Members or Speaker and National Assembly Member Presence Notice[d]. Is Edo State now a personal business of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole?”

Ugbo was further accused of unlawful possession of a double barrel gun without a duly acquired valid license.

The Police Prosecutor told the Court that the accused person committed an offense punishable under Section 249 (d) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 48, Vol. II, laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976, as applicable in Edo State.

The accused who pleaded not guilty to the charge, was ‎admitted to bail in the sum of N100,000 and a surety in like term who must own a property with Certificate of Occupancy.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. C.A. Nwoha, adjourned the case till April 26 for hearing.
