The first prosecution witness in the trial of Senate President Bukola Saraki over false assets declaration at the Code of Conduct Tribunal in Abuja, the Nigerian capital, will continue his testimony this morning.
Micheal Wetkast, a Principal Detective Superintendent of the EFCC was called to the witness box by prosecution counsel, Rotimi Jacob, immediately the Tribunal rejected the ploy by the Saraki lawyers to stall trial again as they announced an appeal of the jurisdiction ruling given on 24 March.
In his testimony, he revealed how huge deposits from Kwara state government treasury were paid into Saraki’s personal accounts and how the money was used by Saraki to acquire property both in Nigeria and abroad.
The Assets Declaration Forms of Saraki were tendered and identified by the witness.
The defence said it is reserving its objections.
The Tribunal admitted all the six Assets Declaration Forms filled by Saraki as exhibits 1 to 6.
Chairman of the tribunal, Danladi Umar ruled the trial should continue today to enable the prosecution conclude with his first witness.
