Wikki Tourists players

Supporters of Wikki Tourists Football Club of Bauchi on Sunday at the Tafawa Balewa Stadium staged a protest over what they saw as the team’s poor performance.

The supporters went wild and hurled abusive words at members of the club’s management team. Their  action followed the home club’s goalless encounter with Akwa United FC of Uyo.

The club’s supporters, in their hundreds, expressed their dismay at the team’s poor performance in spite of home advantage.

The irate supporters then attempted to force themselves into the team’s dressing room, but were prevented from doing so by a team of policemen detailed to maintain peace.

“Our team lacked good strikers and you were given two weeks to look for the best strikers anywhere and employ but you turned deaf ears to this.

“Our problem is lack of strikers. You better recruit one or we will show you our anger,” some of them shouted at club officials.

Meanwhile, Are Dakubo, the Chief Coach of Akwa United FC, in a post-match interview, commended his team for getting a draw from the match.

“I would have loved to see us beating our opponents, but as God will have it we got only a draw in spite of our opponents’ home advantage.

“With this development, I have prepared our players to face El-Kanemi Warriors FC during the week in Katsina and I am happy,’’ he said.

Officials of Wikki Tourists were immediately not available to comment on the match, following the situation created by the club’s supporters.

Wikki are now 9th on the league with 12 points. They had won three games this season, drew three and  lost two.
