Sanders: campaign still alive

Senator Bernie Sanders won the primary race in the US state of Utah, beating his Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton by a wide margin.

He won 18 delegates to Hillary’s 5, bringing his delegate count to 925 after Idaho was added to the tally.

Hillary leads by 1681 delegates. She needs 702 delegates more to clinch nomination, out of 2159 still available.

Sanders had earlier lost in Arizona. But the senator from Vermont also beat Hillary in Idaho taking 18 delegates.

Overall, it was a big night for Sanders as he won a total of 55 delegates. Hillary got 51.

On the Republican side, Senator Ted Cruz collected all the 40 delegates available in Utah, shutting out front runner Donald Trump, thanks to the stop-Trump campaign by former presidential candidate, Mitt Romney.

After winning Arizona, Trump still leads by 739 delegates to Cruz’s 425. John Kasich trails by 143 delegates.

The candidates still have to battle for remaining 984 delegates for their convention.
