Governor Abubakar: uncovers many ghost workers

Like the Federal Government that uncovered 24,000 ghost workers stealing N2billion monthly, the Bauchi State Government says it has also uncovered 19,241 ghost workers and saved N797.46 million.

This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Yakubu Ibn Mohammed, Special Adviser, Media and Communication, to Gov. Mohammed Abubakar of the state.

Mohammed said more than N1 billion would be saved monthly from the exercise.

He explained that the discoveries followed a verification exercise embarked upon by the government to ascertain its work force.

He added that the exercise involved the screening of both its work force and pensioners on the payroll of the state government.

Besides, Mohammed said that the exercise covered staff of the main civil service, those of the 20 local government councils and education board in the state.

He said that the figure released by the office of the state accountant-general showed that the exercise was yielding fruitful results.

The adviser stated that the exercise was being conducted “in the face of dwindling resources and in keeping with the resolve to ensure probity, accountability and prudence in governance and management of resources’’.

“Bauchi State Government has embarked on a verification exercise to ascertain the strength of its actual work force and pensioners,” he said.
