Governor Nyesom Wike: governor with swinging moods

Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike is fast building up the reputation as a man of swinging moods: hot and cold, hot temper and sobriety.

Twice in less than two weeks, he had suspended public officials, only to recall them, making observers wonder, why stage the drama of firing only to melt into an anti-climactic drama of re-hiring.

On 12 February, he  suspended with ‘immediate effect’  the  Commissioner for Finance, Dr Fred Kpakol and the  Accountant General, Sir Abere Dagogo.

On  Valentine Day, two days later, Wike had forgiven the duo and they are now back at work.

The latest act that mirrors the swinging mood of the governor of the oil rich state was the widely publicised suspension of three local council chairmen.

Less than 24 hours after, Wike recalled the suspended    Chairmen of Abua/Odua, Ahoada East and Ahoada West Local Government Areas.

A statement by the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Chief Kenneth Kobani noted that the affected chairmen are to resume work with immediate effect.

For Wike, officials earn immediate ‘suspension’ and are also recalled with ‘immediate effect’.
