The Information Minister, Alhaji Lai Muhammed, has debunked the accusation against the Federal Government that it is violating the rights of people who are being tried for corruption, especially when the courts have granted them bail and they are still held in the slammer.

He argued that while it is true that courts granted these individuals bail, they could not gain total freedom because the prosecution has fresh charges against them.

In his words: “When the court grants you bail, it means it is on the basis of the earlier cases…”

He asked rhetorically: “Anyway, are the human rights of these people standing trial more important than the human rights of victims? You and I are victims!”
