General Officer Commanding, 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Adeniyi Oyebade on Friday in Kaduna warned that the Army will not condone any secession agitation in the North-west.

The GOC also said any of such agitation under his Area of responsibility, which covers North-west and some part of North-Central zones of the country, will be treated as treasonable felony.

Addressing journalists today at the One Division Army Headquarters, he told soldiers under his command not to take sides should there be such agitation or conflict.

While emphasizing that he would not condone any form of security threat to lives and property, he said whenever troops are deployed to crisis zone, they are duty bound to halt break-down of law and order.

The GOC equally said any soldier or officer found in any unprofessional conduct in the event of any agitation would be dealt with according to the military act.
