Boko Haram gunmen attack Nigerian town, set houses ablaze

In a move that shows that Boko Haram insurgents have a staging post within Nigeria, about 300 of their militants have attacked Bara, the headquarters of Gulani Local Government Area of Yobe state.

A resident, Mustafa Bukar who escaped with his wounded brother to Bajoga town in Gombe state said the assailants stormed the town around 11pm, burning down half of the town and shooting indiscriminately.

Bukar said some policemen in the area were attacked. He could not ascertain if any of them got killed.

Bara was among the two local councils in the state previously under Boko Haram control but later liberated by the military recently.

The Nigerian military was yet to respond to the attack.
