Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State, has advised new commissioners and special advisers to eschew graft and profligacy, warning that officials of the various anti-graft agencies are on the prowl as the Buhari government’s anti-corruption crusade is real.
The governor gave the advice on Thursday after administering the oath of office on 18 commissioners and Special Advisers at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta.
He also urged the new aides to be politically alert to their environment and accord due respect to the political class.
He reminded them their appointments came because the party won an election.
Governor Amosun charged the new commissioners to “regard their appointment, out of a pool of equally well qualified people, as entirely a call to service. You must realise that your appointments are an opportunity to prove your mettle as we jointly forge ahead in the mission to rebuild our dear State.
“You must always be conscious of the fact that the responsibility for taking our dear State to unprecedented heights of development and prosperity in an environment of peace and harmony now rests squarely on your shoulders. I urge you to see your appointment as an opportunity to contribute your own quota to the development of our dear State.”
Amosun while explaining that the new commissioners should not misuse their offices stressed that, “you must not see your elevation as a weapon to be used against rivals, either perceived or real. The leadership status that your new position confers upon you makes it imperative that you rise above pettiness and become unifying agents in your respective constituencies, while of course taking the entire State as your ultimate constituency.
The swearing in ceremony was witnessed by dignitaries, including the wife of the governor, Olufunso, the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Taiwo Adeoluwa and the Head of Service, Mr Sola Adeyemi among others.
