Amaechi: Ready for screening
Amaechi: Ready for screening

Former governor of Rivers state Rotimi Amaechi has arrived the National Assembly for his confirmation hearing as a Nigerian minister.

His name tops the list of  six nominees slated to be heard today,   according to the Senate’s order paper. But  his old demons are back to scupper the exercise.

Unconfirmed  reports  said  the Senate Ethics committee report expected to be considered by the Senate before his screening was not ready. A PDP senator, Anyanwu heads the committee.

This may not be a problem after all, judging by the statement of  majority leader, Senator Ali Ndume.

He hinted yesterday that the report may not necessarily hinder the exercise and that APC senators are prepared to support Amaechi. The APC has a clear majority in the Senate.

Amaechi arrived the Senate  in company of the presidential senior assistant on National Assembly matters, Senator Ita Enang, the Rivers state All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the last election Dakuku Peterside among others.

Amaechi’s name has been dropped from the screening list of ministerial nominees by senate for three times in the past two weeks over a petition against him for alleged corruption.

Others are Heineken Lopkobiri, Adewale Folorunsho, Baba Shehuri Mustapha, Ocholi James and Claudius Daramola.
