Governor Ganduje: requests for House approval for CBN loan

The Kano State House of Assembly has directed its Committee on Finance to scrutinise the content of a letter sent by Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje seeking approval for a N20 billion loan.

The loan is to be secured from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Reading details of the letter on the floor of the House, the Majority Leader, Alhaji Yusuf Ata, said the state government would disburse N6 billion to the 44 local government councils as bail out package out of the loan.

He added that part of the loan would be sunk into settling pensioners’ arrears and the payment of salaries of newly employed health workers.

Ganduje, in the letter, also said that part of the money would go into settling the arrears of workers promoted recently.

He explained that the loan to be granted to the 44 local governments was payable within a period of 20 years.

He added that the local governments were expected to spend the money on the execution of projects.

In his contribution, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Alhaji Hamisu Chidari, urged the committee to expedite action on the request in view of its urgent nature.

The letter was sent to the House on Monday.
