Nigerian Senate ends plenary, still no list from Buhari

The Nigerian Senate has ended plenary for 30 September, without receiving President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministerial list.

Buhari himself arrived Abuja today  from his 6-day New York trip to attend the 70th  United Nations General Assembly.

He had promised to submit the list today.

There has been no explanation  from the presidency over the delay. But political observers said the President still has up till midnight to send the list to Senate President Bukola Saraki and keep faith with his promise.

It’s been over four months since President Buhari was sworn in as Nigeria’s president.

So far, it has taken him longest since 1999, among a succession of civilian presidents, to constitute a cabinet. Former President olusegun Obasanjo both in 1999 and 2003 formed his cabinet in June.

Former President Umaru Yar’Adua constituted his cabinet in July 2007 and so did Goodluck Jonathan,  in 2011, following his election in April 2011.
