The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi Lamido has married his fourth wife: daughter of the Lamido of Adamawa, Muhammadu Barkindo Mustapha. She is named Saadatu, 18 years old.

Though the emir is at present in Saudi Arabia as the Amirul  Hajj for Nigerian pilgrims, the marriage rite was performed  quietly at the Lamido’s palace on Friday, just after the Jumat prayers.

The ceremony was attended by the Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and prominent chiefs in Kano.

The Leadership on Sunday newspaper  reported that Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Abbas Sanusi , was also at the event and that he, in fact, represented  Emir Sanusi.

Speculations about the marriage started early this year.

Marriages like these, said the report, are seen as ways of cementing relationships between emirates and kingdoms in Northern Nigeria especially, as both the emirates of Adamawa and Kano have a long historical bond as products of Uthman Dan Fodio’s dynasty.

The Kano Emir, now 54 years old, is already married to Rakiya, Maryam and Sadiya.
