Nigeria’s 400 metres relay team

Nigeria’s women 4×400 metres relay team on Thursday won their event at the 11th All-Africa Games in Brazzaville, Congo, while their male counterparts fell short of expectations.

The women team won in a time of 3 minutes 27.12 seconds, ahead of Botswana which finished second in a time of 3:32.84.

Kenya were third in a time of 3 minutes 35 seconds, to signify their incursion into the sprint events of the athletics sport.

The East Africans made up for their loss in the male version of the event, winning the gold medal in a time of 3:00.34, ahead of Botswana.

Botswana won their second quarter-mile relay silver medal in a time of 3:00.95, while Algeria won bronze with 3:03.07.

Nigeria’s loss of stranglehold in its traditional powerhouse was amplified in its fourth-place positioning with a time of 3:03.52.

In the men’s long jump event, there was success for Nigeria as Samson Idiata won the gold medal with a jump of 7.83 metres.

In para-athletics, Oluwasegun Rotawo won the silver medal in the 200 metres T11.

The Games will end on Saturday
