Ezike disclosed this in Port Harcourt at a meeting with leaders of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Traffic managers.
The commissioner said Rivers Government and the command were worried by the recent chaotic traffic situation in Port Harcourt.
The police boss said the command has set up a Task Force, tagged ‘Operation Keep Moving’ in conjunction with the FRSC to tackle the traffic problem.
He said that the task force would be headed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), with a mandate to go round the metropolis and dismantle all illegal parks in the city.
‘’Their mandate will be to go round, dismantle all illegal parks, make arrest and prosecute the culprits, ensure that vehicles do not load on the road and toe all broken down vehicles on the road into the yard,’’ he said.
Ezike warned that the owners of the vehicles toed would face the legal consequences, while such vehicles would be kept in police premises.
‘’I don’t want to ambush you, that is why I called you to give you this information; you will go back and inform your members about this development; sensitise your members about this development,’’ he warned.
The commissioner said the Task Force would be inaugurated on July 14.
‘’ We are working out the modality. We are here to make Rivers safer and better for the people of the state.
‘’I don’t have any doubt in my mind that with the ‘zero pothole policy’ of the State Government, the issue of better roads will be seen in no distant time,’’ Ezike said.
