Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Wednesday said that the tanker park at the Orile area of the state would be expanded to ease the usual gridlock in Apapa.

Ambode said this at a meeting with the Depots Association of Petroleum Products Marketers of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) and the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) at the Government House, Alausa, Lagos State.

He also said that his administration would continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to control the influx of petroleum tankers into Lagos.

“We have to re-construct the Orile Tanker Park so that additional trucks can park there so that traffic can flow freely in Apapa.

“If the tankers must come in every day into Lagos, we must have location for them to park but not on our bridges.

“My short term solution will be to continue to use a task force to clean up the bridges and also immediately expand the truck park at Orile from 350 to 1000 capacity.’’

Ambode said that the constituted task force would ensure that trucks and tankers who came into Lagos did not constitute nuisance to other road users.

The governor urged the various unions in the oil and gas sector to be responsible in their dealings with the public.

He said that his administration would not relent in its efforts to reduce the stress encountered by residents of Apapa and its environ. (NAN)
