The Daily Beast has reported that US police may have shot and seriously wounded Richard Matt, one of the murder convicts who broke jail in New York area.
Matt was shot in the vicinity of Lake Titus, New York—an area that has been intensely searched by authorities in recent days, Daily Beast reported, quoting knowledgeable sources in the US law enforcement community.
The Buffalo News confirms that Matt has been shot and “may be dead.”
CNN reports police are “now in pursuit” of fellow escapee and convicted murderer David Sweat.
Lake Titus is approximately 10 miles west of Owl’s Head, where police said they had found evidence that Matt and Sweat had broken into a cabin.
The Daily Beast’s M.L. Nestel and Kate Briquelet reported that Matt—who was serving 25 years to life for killing and dismembering his former boss—charmed prison guards with portraits of celebrities (like Oprah) and was reportedly a ladies’ man.
