Bukola Saraki emerges senate president

Senator Bukola Saraki, representing Kwara central has been elected as the new Senate President of the 8th National Assembly in Nigeria.

Saraki emerged unopposed at the election today.

The 108 senators are voting for the deputy senate president, a contest between Ali Ndume from Borno State and Ike Ekweremadu from Enugu state. Ekweremadu of the Peoples Democratic Party was deputy for eight years under David Mark. Ndumw belongs to the All Progressives Congress.
