Sloane Stephens has dampened the French Open hopes of veteran star and fellow American, Venus Williams, dumping her out in two straight sets, 7-6, 6-1.

Sloane’s victory over Venus was the second upset of the day recorded by WTA Rising Stars.

The first upset was pulled off by Annika Beck taking out 14th seeded Agnieszka Radwanska.

Radwanska didn’t just fall, she fought back in the second set but ultimately succumbed to the rock solid ground game of Beck in the third, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.

Venus Williams, seeded 15th followed Radwanska to the sidelines later in the day, looking strong early on – even holding a 3-1 lead in the first set tie-break – but going quietly to Stephens, 7-6(5), 6-1.
