Table tennis: Ajetunmobi, Adeniyi win men's doubles

The duo of Seun Ajetunmobi and Kazeem Adeniyi on Thursday won the men’s doubles title of the 11th Aso Table Tennis Club National Championship.

Ajetunmobi and Adeniyi defeated the pair of Gbenga Ajulo and Hameed Bello 4-1 (12-14, 11-4, 11-5, 11-7, 11-4) to emerge winners of the men’s doubles.

In the women’s double category, Funmilayo Ajala and Alimat Hussein on Thursday emerged champions beating Yusuf/Kazeem from Oyo State 3-2 (11-8, 13-11, 1-11, 5-11, 11-9) in the final round.

The championship is holding at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Abuja National Stadium and is being organised in collaboration with the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF).

Portugal-based Ajetunmobi is the number one seeded player in the tournament and Nigeria’s third-ranked player.

On the other hand, Adeniyi is the 14th-ranked player in Nigeria and sixth-seeded in the tournament.

Over 200 players from 25 states and the FCT are taking part in the championship.

The championship which began on Tuesday is expected to end on Friday.
